Course objectives and description

Aims: The objective of the course is to introduce key notions at the basis of quantitative studies of cell dynamics within live organisms. The rate at which cell divide and differentiate is a fundamental property of differentiating system, such as development and cancer.
Themes: This course will take hematopoiesis as a model of study, but the notions and concepts covered will be applicable to other cellular systems. Organization: The course will include lectures, discussion of articles and a project. The project will involve wet lab experiments (cell isolation and live microscopy) and analyses of the generated data.
The course (granting 3 ECTS for IMaLiS students) will be organized at Institut Curie (Paris) and Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS), over 1 week and a half (Wednesday-Friday).
Warning: depending on the evolution the COVID-19 pandemics, the course might be organized (in part) through video-conferencing, while the lab work might be cancelled.

Assessment

The evaluation will be based on the presentation of an article, and on the R notebook generated for the project. For the notebook, the students will peer-review each-other’s work, and this reviewing will also be included in the evaluation.
